Thailand's Bumrungrad Hospital in promotion tie-up with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.

You know MT is going mainstream when BlueCross BlueShield gets involved. A press release, originating out of Bangkok (http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2008/2/prweb674773.htm) says BlueCross BlueShield South Carolina is promoting Thailand's Bumrungrad Hospital to its 1.3 million plan members. BCBS South Carolina will market Bumrungrad through a subsidiary unit, Companion Global Healthcare, and with help from an international healthcare assistance company called World Access. The release says the alliance is the first between a major US health insuror and a Thai hospital. According to the release, a senior executive at BCBSSC saw a story on Bumrungrad on CBS 60 Minutes, and that put the ball in play for the marketing alliance between the insuror and the Thai hospital.

An MT (medical tourism) Manifesto:

- We believe MT (medical tourism) is destined to become a significant phenomenon in the United States.

- MT will have a steady and growing impact on US healthcare providers in the years to come.

- MT will be a "world-flattening" trend that pushed countries to revamp their tax codes, visa requirements, etc in the quest for more medical tourists.

- US insurors will slowly recognize the growth of this still-new phenomenon and adjust their plans accordingly..

- The US economy's slowing growth and employment rates, and high healthcare costs, will help drive the trend toward MT.
